Bunya Mountains to Bargara - 7th to 14 February 2024

For this week away we spent 2 nights in the Bunya Mountains, 1 night as a freecamp at the Historic Theebine Hotel, then 4 nights at Bargara.

For this week away we spent 2 nights in the Bunya Mountains, 1 night as a freecamp at the Historic Theebine Hotel, then 4 nights at Bargara. Our 1st stop (in the rain!) was Linville just off the D'Aguilar Highway. This small town is on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail. Next stop on the way to the Bunya Mountains was Coomba Falls which is only a couple of km off the main road at Maidenwell. A beautiful peaceful place to visit & well worth the diversion. And then we got to set up camp for a couple of nights at beautiful Dandabah in the Bunya Mountains. Plenty of both animal/birdlife & fungi about. It was also bunya nut season. On day 3 we woke to a cool misty & rainy morning & packed up in the rain.

Next stop on our way to Bargara was the Theebine Hotel for our 1st ever pub freecamp. This is a beautifully restored old pub in a small town on the rail route, north of Gympie. Of course we enjoyed a meal & drinks so that bit not free. Only optional cost for accomodation was $5 per person to use the showers.

To finish up our trip we had 4 nights at the Breeze Holiday Park in Bargara & enjoyed some beautiful swimming at the beach. We also visited Mon Repos on a couple of occasions. The highlight of our trip was seeing Loggerhead Turtle hatchlings beginning their life journey at Mon Repos. For a 2nd time we packed up in the rain only this time much heavier. As so many things were wet, this meant a day back home drying everything out & repacking.

One change made after this trip away, was to add an extra solar panel on the roof and a 3rd 100AH battery, as with overcast conditions we were sometimes struggling to collect enough sun to recharge fully each day.
